Many changes in the body take place when a woman is pregnant such as hormonal as well as physical changes. There is also notable change to the skin during pregnancy due to a surge of hormones in the body. Many women develop skin blemishes, pigmentation, acne and itching during pregnancy. Usually these symptoms disappear after the delivery. During the first and second trimester many pregnant women suffer from dry skin which in turn causes the skin to itch.
Not only during pregnancy but after the deliver women tend to experience itching which is caused by postpartum hives or rashes. There are several reasons why a woman may develop itching during and after pregnancy. Some pregnant women may experience mild itching and others may experience sever itching which in turn causes stress. One of the most common causes of itching during pregnancy is high levels of estrogen. An increase in hormones can result in redness of the soles of the feet as well as the palms of the hands.
Once the mother has delivered the hormones return to normal and the itching disappears. As the baby starts growing in the mother's womb, the skin starts stretching and skin contains natural oil glands which in turn start to dry out which leads to the skin becoming itchy. In the final trimester many women start developing skin rashes which appear as large bumps referred to as pruritic urticaria papules and causes severe itching. This type of rash occurs on the abdominal region and can spread to the upper and lower parts of the body.
Another common ailment in pregnant women is vaginal itching resulting from an infection causing microbes. Another cause for vaginal itching is a drop in the pH levels. Some women also form a rare condition known as Pemphigoid gestationis which appears as blisters on the abdomen. These types of lesions resemble hives and this condition is indicative of complications related to the fetus such as the risk of premature labor as well as impaired fetal growth.
During pregnancy there are occasions where the bile duct fails to function properly and in turn lead to salts accumulating on the surface of the skin which causes itching. This can occur during the second or third trimester and is known as intrahepatic cholestasis. Other causes of itching during pregnancy are skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis and others. These types of disorders are inclined to flair when a woman is pregnant and usually reduced after delivery.
However, there are several remedies that can be used to relieve this discomforting condition. For instance avoid wearing clothes that are tight especially during the last stages of pregnancy as the skin needs to breathe and be free of excess moisture. If one suffers from dry skin then make sure you apply ample moisturizers to the skin to keep it moist. Drinking plenty of water also helps keep the skin well hydrated.
Being pregnant is a wonderful phase of any women's life, so don't allow itching during pregnancy to spoil this happy occasion. Even after moisturizing the skin or trying various remedies the skin is still itching, then consult with your doctor.

Lipomas are lumps or clusters of fatty tissue deposits, that amass just below the surface of the skin. They are inclined to be soft and spongy, easily able to be moved when touched or pressed. Generally speaking, they are not dangerous, unless the fatty tissue collects in the region of a nerve, or if the build up causes some form of disfigurement.
The standard diagnostic process involves a doctor carrying out an initial investigation to verify that the lump is a lipoma, and not a more serious form of tumour. When it is proven beyond doubt that the lump is a lipoma, the removal of the fat cells can be considered. The lump can be removed by one of various options, including surgery, laser treatment, liposuction and steroid injections. Depending on the preferred choice, these procedures can be carried out at the medical centre, clinic, hospital or maybe even privately by a cosmetic surgeon.
However, surgery is not the only option. There are several natural, home remedies and herbal treatments that could be tried before embarking on the surgical route. The following are some options that could be considered following advice and careful discussions with your medical professionals.
Castor Oil - apply topically several times daily for best results.
Flaxseed Oil - this is high in omega-3, so by taking this oil, it may be possible to dissolve lipomas, or at the very least, stunt the development of fatty cells
Lemon Juice - this is renowned for reducing toxins and stimulating the liver, which may assist the body to digest fats and therefore help to reduce the number and size of the fatty lumps.
Herbal Treatments
Turmeric - it is commonly believed by many experts that by combining turmeric powder with olive oil and applying the blend to the fatty deposits, the lipomas can be softened and reduced.
Chickweed - both chickweed tea and ointment have demonstrated the capacity to reduce the size of lipoma tumours. Chickweed ointments and herbs are readily available from most health shops. The tea is made by infusing two teaspoonfuls of dried chickweed in boiling water for around fifteen minutes.
Thuja Occidentalis - Ayurvedic medicine practitioners regularly use this form of cedar in the treatment for common skin ailments, such as warts and lipomas. A mixture of cedar extract and water is applied to the affected areas two or three times per day.
Green Tea - real green tea is a great fat burner. Increasing body metabolism and burning off fat is an ideal way of avoiding adding to lipoma problems
Lifestyle Changes
As lipoma lumps consist of fat, one obvious factor in minimising growths is to reduce the intake of fat. Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet is advantageous anyway, but for lipoma sufferers in particular, it can be extremely helpful in reducing the size and number of these fatty growths. Eating leaner meats and cutting out fatty dairy products, as well as eating green vegetables and fruit is a good point to start. Cut out processed foods, white sugar and white flour as well, and the difference will be noticeable. Perhaps a body detox and immune system boosting supplements would not go amiss.
A good way of dealing with lipomas could therefore be a combination of the above tips. Lipoma reducing creams, fat burning herbs, a proper healthy diet and exercise may just be the answer.

A breast rash is like eczema that you find anywhere else on your body. Most women won't notice that a rash is appearing so it is important that the first step of any self breast examination is checking the skin on your breasts by looking at them in the mirror.
For women with large breasts it is most common between the breasts due to sweat and wearing the wrong size bra which pushes your breasts together constantly.
The first thing that you should know is that there are two types of breast rash. The first is on the skin of the breast and second affect the nipple.
If you have the second type, you MUST go to your doctor and get a referral to a dermatologist. Why? Because nipple eczema can be just that or it can be a sign of a far more serious disease called Pagets Disease which is actually a type of breast cancer.
If you are breastfeeding at the time that you notice the rash developing, it is also a good idea to get yourself to the doctor because it is possible that you are developing mastitis. Don't worry, this is a very common breastfeeding complaint!
So, what does a breast rash look like?
It usually shows up as small red patches on the skin that may become itchy if you ignore them. You will also find that the eczema can be further aggravated by certain types of fabric such as lace.
If not treated, it may lead to cracked skin and sores! This is a painful outcome and likely to lead to further much more serious infection!
However, breast rash can be difficult to get rid of for two main reasons:
1. Your chest area tends to get very little exposure to air and sunlight and sweat creates moisture! You will find that the problem will usually appear in summer or if you are in hot temperatures.
2. Fungal spores can live in your bras! You need to wash your bra using very hot water and leave out to dry in direct sunlight. Adding a half a cup of white vinegar the water when washing the bra will help to kill any fungal spores.
How to treat breast rash:
  • Take regular showers or baths to help calm the area and clean it.
  • Over the counter rash creams such as a diaper rash cream can work very effectively. The best thing to do is to actually talk to the pharmacist to find the best cream. You can always pretend you are talking about your sister or mother if you are embarrassed!!
  • Apply an absorbent baby powder to the area to stop moisture. Excessive moisture is a possible cause of the rash and will almost certainly ensure that it hangs around for a while.
  • Make sure that you are wearing a bra that is the right size! A proper fitting bra will separate the breasts so that you don't develop a rash between the breasts. It will also sit flat on your ribcage and not move around, which will help stop you getting a rash under your breasts.
Yes, breast rash is ugly and totally unsexy but the above tips should help you to get rid of it as quickly as possible. If it persists for more than a week, book an appointment with your doctor so she can make sure that it is nothing more serious.
Above all, remember, they're your breasts so don't leave breast care until there is something wrong.
